The original Broadway production of ''Wonderful Town,'' directed by George Abbott, featured Rosalind Russell and Edith Adams as two sisters from Ohio who come to 1930's Manhattan to make their way in the big bad city. ![]() Cinders,'' a British musical version of the Cinderella story, set in the 1920's. This year, ''Wonderful Town'' will be followed by ''Ankles Aweigh,'' the 1955 musical about a newly-wed movie starlet and Navy pilot who end up on an aircraft carrier bound for Morocco, and ''Mr. Price observed that 70 percent of this season's tickets are already sold out. He noted, however, that it has 8,500 individual donors, ''the largest such number of any theater in the country.'' He added that revenues from such hits as ''Annie'' ''have pulled us out of the hole in some years.'' He described the theater's base of regular subscribers as ''solid.'' Mr. The Goodspeed, a nonprofit company with a $3 million annual budget, operated with a small deficit last year, according to Mr. Price took over a financially shaky company and turned it into a critically successful enterprise. Bernstein, partly to honor the composer's 70th birthday. With songs like ''Why Did We Ever Leave Ohio?'' and ''100 Easy Ways to Lose A Man'' composed by Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, the 1953 musical will be Goodspeed's 98th production - 11 of which have gone on to Broadway -and its first by Mr. But as these theater professionals prepare to open the Goodspeed Opera House silver anniversary season Wednesday with a revival of ''Wonderful Town,'' not one of them is complaining. And in the rehearsal studio, the director has to compete with a nearby waterfall. The musical director can only fit 14 musicians in the orchestra pit.
